sankofa retreat 2024: Accra, ghana

Return to your roots

Welcome! Happy that you have found this page and interested in visiting Ghana with me this year. This is not your typical retreat. Yes, we will be organized and do things as a group but one thing to know about me: I am big on having and creating authentic experiences that will allow you to immerse yourself in the country’s culture and not be watered down by the average tourist traps.

I’ve carefully crafted an itinerary that will fit your needs from the excursions I’ve cherry picked for us to participate in, down to the food we’d eat. There are two dates for the retreat: December 16 to the 23rd and December 27 to January 2, 2025. For the first date, we will travel outside of Accra and visit the other vibrant cities in Ghana; participating in the last celebration of the year for Akwasidae Festival. And for those interested in coming after the Christmas holiday, we’ll be enjoying the end of the year festivities including AfroFuture Festival.

I welcome all to join me on this adventure.

-Davisha (Your Sankofa Retreat host)

  • kakum national park

Kakum National Park in Ghana, established in 1992, is a tropical rainforest reserve known for its rich biodiversity. The park features an impressive canopy walkway, one of the longest and highest in the world, offering visitors a unique treetop perspective of the rainforest. With hiking trails and educational programs, Kakum National Park aims to promote ecotourism and conservation, providing a captivating experience for nature enthusiasts

  • BOTI WATER FALLS

Boti Waterfalls is a picturesque natural attraction located in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The falls consist of two main cascades, known as the Upper and Lower Boti Falls. Visitors can enjoy a scenic hike to reach both falls, with the Lower Boti Falls being particularly popular for swimming. The surrounding lush greenery and the cultural significance of the falls make Boti Waterfalls a captivating destination for both nature lovers and those interested in Ghana's cultural heritage.

  • CAPE COAST CASTLE

Cape Coast Castle, situated in Cape Coast, Ghana, is a historic fortress built by European colonial powers during the transatlantic slave trade. Constructed in the 17th century, the castle served as a key hub for the shipping of enslaved Africans to the Americas. With its dark dungeons, Door of No Return, and historical exhibits, Cape Coast Castle stands as a poignant symbol of the inhumanity of the slave trade. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a powerful memorial, offering visitors insight into this dark chapter of history.
